The internet can be a scary place, especially when it comes to gender based harassment. These days, body shaming, violence and threats are mostly acted out online.

Recently, blogger Chelsea Woolley put out a video on her Tumblr page featuring six men between the ages of 18 and 25 reading disturbing tweets directed at women. There is something to be said for reading hurtful words out loud, it has a way of revealing the true intensity of a statement. For these men, reading the tweets aloud certainly made an impact.

At first, the men laughed at the ridiculous tweets, however as they continued to read the harsh and sometimes vulgar messages, their reactions became somber.

Online harassment has been making headlines lately, and shows no signs of slowing down. Unfortunately, this type of aggression is becoming the new norm. By addressing the wrongs being done and brining them to light, we can combat online sexism and misogyny.

From this video the hashtag #ThatsJustMean was born. Here are just some of the tweets surfacing in reaction to Woolley's video.

Words really do matter. Watch Woolley's video and see for yourself how hurtful words can be. Be sure to share with us what you think on twitter @IWSSmetro and keep the hashtag #ThatsJustMean alive!
