Pronouns and the Media

The use of pronouns when it comes to gender identification has been a hot topic in the media these days, especially with speculation surrounding Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner's transition. Jenner has not made any statements to the media regarding his gender identity however, publications insist on telling his story for him as they continue to refer to Jenner as he or him.

Janet Mock, host of the MSNBC show So Popular recently spoke about the problem with misidentification and the use of pronouns pertaining to Jenner's story. Because this topic is so incredibility relevant, and because Mock will be speaking on our campus next week (February 26th), we decided that this week's post is very fitting.
